On Poetry
Poetry insists on brevity, a kind of short hand that distills ideas down to their essence. When in it’s lighter mode, it might playfully rhyme about people whose story is amusing. In a more serious mode, it might plunge the depths of the human psyche and human emotions. But whether the verse is free, rhymed, in a particular meter, tells a story or is just descriptive, poetry is a wonderful vehicle for exploring and commenting on those sudden moments or ideas we encounter that inspire us to express ourselves.
